Why Use Our Electronic Meters
instead of Glass Meters?

Let's assume your client has given you "card blanche" in choosing the metering equipment to install. Why should you choose our electronic metering equipment instead of the very familiar electro-mechanical meter otherwise known as "glass meters?"

2 Simple reasons

  1. Easier to install

  2. Quicker to install

Our electronic meters are easier and quicker to install because they do not need meters pans for installation. The most time consumming task of installing a glass meter is the installation of the meter pan. By eliminating this step, considerable time is saved.

Time equals money!

Our electronic meters read voltage using coupler taps and read current using either solid-core or split-core current transformers. The current transformers are placed around the lines to be metered.

Split-Core Current Transformer

If you use split-core current transformers, there is no need to turn off power since they clamp around the lines.

Installation examples

  1. If you need to meter a 3-phase distribution panel, simply place each current transformer around the line side of each hot wire (phase). If the panel is single-phase, simply place a current transformer around each hot wire.

  2. Let's assume you need to meter only 5 circuits on a distribution panel, not the entire panel. Let's also assume the wiring as follows:

  • Distribution panel is three phase

  • All circuits coming off the panel are single phase

  • Circuit #1 is fed from phase #1 of the panel
Circuit #2 is fed from phase #2 of the panel
Circuit #3 is fed from phase #3 of the panel
Circuit #4 is fed from phase #1 of the panel
Circuit #5 is fed from phase #2 of the panel

To meter these 5 circuits:

  • Gang circuits #1 and #4 together through a current transformer
Gang circuits #2 and #5 together through a current transformer
Place circuit #3 through a current transformer

  • Coupler taps are placed on all three phases of the panel.

  • All wiring is connected to the meter.

Other Important Features of Our Meters

  • Our meters are stand-alone and system connectable.

  • Meter information is accessible both on-site through an LCD screen and remotely by phone lines and radio.

  • Our meters also have contact closure and pulse outputs for connection to an Energy Management System.
